ExxonMobil’s business model is different: they drill holes in the ground, all over the world, and then they sit on top of them for forty years at a time. Now, that’s a very strange geopolitical imperative. What you actually want, when you do that as an independent sovereign, is you want stability. So: war, tumult, coups, and changes of government are bad for them.
